The large house fire that killed three family members and wounded two people on Locust Park in Colonie originated on the home's porch and was not intentionally set, town police said Tuesday.
The fire, which occurred just before 8 p.m. Jan. 27, claimed the lives of Timothy Ryan, 42, his wife, Katelyn Ryan, 33, and her mother, Lynne Lyons, 72, according to police.
While police and the Town of Colonie Fire Services are still working to determine the exact cause and origin, they determined the fire accidentally started on the porch of the home.
"Arson, or any other criminal act, is not suspected to have contributed to this fire," polie said in a statement. An investigation into evidence continues to determine the exact cause.
Officers and multiple fire agencies found multiple people trapped inside a single-family home upon responding to the fire. Two people that were taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital survived.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.
Another Monday night fire in the North Country community of Massena killed six people, according to authorities, while two people died in a fire in Dutchess County on Sunday evening. That fire led to an arson arrest, police said.
