A detailed lawsuit has been filed against the alleged NXIVM cult, its leader Keith Raniere, and some of the highest- ranking members of the group.

The civil suit was filed Tuesday in federal court in Brooklyn.

It's on behalf of former members Sarah Edmondson, Toni Natalie, Mark Vicente and 79 other people.

The lengthy lawsuit details their claims of abuse at the hands of Raniere and his trusted inner circle. It claims the defendants conspired to commit sex trafficking, debt labor, forced labor and human trafficking through NXIVM.

It details how women were brought to the Capital Region and manipulated with collateral and forced to have sex with Raniere.

The lawsuit also describes experiments done on people.

The plaintiffs claim it was made financially, physically and psychologically difficult or impossible to get away from NXIVM through lawsuits and intimidation tactics by the group.

The lawsuit hones in on much of what came out during the criminal trial last summer, where Raniere was convicted on all charges, including sex trafficking and forced labor.

Others charged in the investigation didn't go to trial, but pleaded guilty to charges for their roles in the organization.
