Schenectady first responders had a busy Thursday night, responding to four overdoses in less than two hours.

According to police, the first overdose call came in around 6 p.m. Thursday. Three more followed just minutes apart, with the last one coming in around 7:30.

Lieutenant Thomas Kelly responded to two of those calls. He says those individuals told him they had used fentanyl powder. Kelly says Narcan was not utilized in those cases. He isn’t sure about the other two overdoses.

All four individuals were taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK. Kelly says the overdoses happened in Hamilton Hill and Central State neighborhoods.

"This is abnormal," Lt. Kelly said. "We don’t typically get that many overdoses back to back. So it’s potential that something was bad, or there was a different type of a drug or chemical compounds that’s more dangerous."

Police are reminding the public about their Schenectady Cares program. It launched last week and allows anyone battling addiction to stop at the police department to receive support.
