Troy's next city comptroller will take office next week.
Mayor Carmella Mantello revealed Thursday that Jack Krokos, a Sand Lake councilman, will be officially appointed comptroller Monday. In a statement, Krokos is described as having worked in banking and has a master's in business administration degree from the University at Albany.
"As our Comptroller, Jack will oversee the implementation of a brand new, state of the art accounting system that will allow the Comptroller’s office to become more efficient and effective in working toward best serving the people of the City of Troy," Mantello said in a statement.
The comptroller's job has been vacant in Troy since July 2024, causing Mantello's proposed 2025 budget to be done with the help of an outside accounting firm, according to the mayor's office.
Democrats on Troy's council — President Sue Steele and Council Members Katie Spain-McLaren and Aaron Vera — said in a statement that Krokos' hiring is "welcome news but long-overdue," citing the costs of using outside firms for the budget proposal and audits.
"Many questions remain unanswered, including the administration’s plan to address record department-level vacancies," the statement read in part.
