One of multiple meetings surrounding Troy's city budget proposal begins tonight.

Officials say this first meeting will be an overview of the budget. Then over the next six weeks, there will be hearings with each department to go through the proposed budget.

There will also be more than a dozen public meetings.

A major topic will be what some councilmembers are calling a possible $1 million shortfall for costs associated with the 911 contract. Mayor Carmella Mantello responded, saying the contract with Rensselaer County doesn't expire until the end of the year and negotiations are underway.

Mantello says there is funding in the contingency account, depending on the outcome of the talks.
