New York State Senator George Amedore will not seek re-election. Amedore announced Friday afternoon that he will not seek another term serving in Albany in 2020.
Amedore was first elected to the state Senate in 2014, representing the 46th District. Before that, he spent time serving in the Assembly, representing the 105th district.
In a statement released Friday he says he did not intend to be a career politician and believes this is the right time to step away from politics.
Amedore's departure is just the latest in a string of Republican members of the state legislature not seeking to return after the next election. Michelle HInchey, a candidate for the 46th State Senate District, released a statement following Amedore's announcement.
"While Senator Amedore and I have differences on the issues, I thank him for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors. I’m excited to continue meeting and working with families across the 46th to find ways that we can improve the lives of those in our community," Hinchey said.
