The Capital City Rescue Mission has declared an "extreme" Code Blue this weekend.

That is when it "feels like" temperatures drop to single digits.

“With temperatures falling well below freezing it becomes a life or death situation for those out on the streets,” Executive Director of Capital City Rescue Mission Perry Jones said in a statement. “Homeless folks have no option. They can’t stay out in weather like that.”

Shelter officials say in addition to their bed capacity, they also expect to have an extra roughly 100 people sleeping on mats on the floor.

"We're open 24 hours a day," Jones said. "We want you to come in. And these cold weather times, don't chance trying to be out there, because you don't want to freeze out there. It can be deadly or it really cause havoc with frostbite and other things. We want you in come in. You're going to find the door open at 259 South Pearl Street."
