Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo announced Thursday that he will not seek reelection in 2025 and threw his weight behind the county undersheriff.

Zurlo, a Republican, said he had decided to step aside and allow new leadership to take over when his term expires at the end of this year. In a statement posted on Facebook, he said key initiatives were implemented during his tenure.

"We placed school resource officers in schools, added more deputies to patrol our streets, expanded our emergency radio communication system, and fostered strong, collaborative relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies," Zurlo said.

He is in his 12th year on the job.

Zurlo said he fully supports Undersheriff Jeff Brown to become the next county sheriff.

In a statement released Thursday, Brown said he plans to run.

"Under my leadership, Saratoga County will have a Sheriff’s Office that you can trust, today and for the future,” he said.
