For Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s DJ Mosher and the squad's other seniors, the start to this football season was far from ideal. After two weeks, the Spartans were looking at a 0-2 record.

“For us seniors especially, I mean, this is it. This is our chance to prove how good we are as a team. We knew we were better than the way we were playing,” said Mosher, a senior running back and defensive back.

What You Need To Know

Mosher and his teammates were able to turn it around in Week 2, and haven’t looked back. The Spartans have won seven games in a row as they now head into the Section 2 Class A semifinals.

“We talked about the bounce how high or the bounce you're going to be when you hit that bottom part. And that's the foundation they built from working through that adversity,” said Kevin Debonis, head coach for Burnt Hills. “And it's really carried them through the last, I guess, seven weeks now.”

The big bounceback has set them up for another date with Queensbury, who they defeated 22-21 just a month ago.

“That was really tough. And that's been motivating us to be in it this week,” said Ryan Novak, a senior offensive and defensive lineman for Queensbury.

“It's always a battle. We talk about it all the time. It's Spartan versus Spartan. It's always a good game one way or the other. We have respect for their program. They have respect for our program,” said David Huth, Queensbury’s head coach.

This will be the tenth time these two programs have met in the postseason since 2004. Burnt Hills currently leads that series 5-4.

“We all have history. And again, there's not a lot of surprises,” Debonis said. “They're throwing the ball a little bit more. But it is very physical game and it's just always a shootout, whether it's a low-scoring shootout or a big shootout.”

From the brink of despair to battling for a spot in the Class A Super Bowl, both teams are looking to keep the runs going for at least another week.

“We’re looking to make a good playoff run, and it's been going good so far,” Novak said.

“We know that we got to come just as prepared as last time and even more prepared because we know they're going to be ready to play very physical team. And I think we got the skill set to do it,” Mosher said.

Kickoff is set for Friday at 7 p.m. on Spectrum News 1.
