A dental comparison conducted on skeletal remains found this week in Troy has determined the skull does not belong to Jaliek Rainwalker, a 12-year-old who disappeared in 2007, Troy police announced Wednesday.

Law enforcement authorities notified a family member of the boy, Troy Assistant Chief of Police Steven Barker said in a statement.

Additional analysis on the remains is scheduled to take place next week, when police may have information regarding the potential gender, age and/or identity of the remains, Barker said.

Troy police said they discovered the human remains Sunday near Burden Pond in South Troy, near where State Police previously searched for possible evidence in Rainwalker's disappearance. Officers were tipped off to the presence of the remains by a caller.

Members of the Rensselaer County Medical Examiner's office and New York State Police were working to learn the identity of the deceased individual, how long the remains were in the area, the cause of the person's death and if a crime occurred.
