Albany International Airport will have a new leader in 2025.
Albany County Airport Authority CEO Phil Calderone's contract will not be renewed when it expires on Dec. 1, according to the airport authority's board of directors. Calderone, the former longtime deputy mayor of Albany and deputy Albany County executive, had been in the position for five years.
The board of directors' statement said it notified Calderone of its decision Monday, and it is hiring a national search firm for Calderone's successor.
"The search process will take several months, and we anticipate having a new CEO in place by the new year," the statement read in part. "We are confident we will find and hire a new leader of high caliber for this important position."
But in a letter written Wednesday to the Albany County Legislature’s chair, majority leader and head of its Mass Transit Committee, Republican Legislators Jennifer Whalen and Ryan Conway requested a meeting of the committee to hear directly from the Albany County Airport Authority’s Board of Directors regarding Calderone’s future.
“The public should be informed about why this happened,” it said. “If the Board is replacing Mr. Calderone as CEO, they should explain how they will proceed with their next selection process.”
