Migrants being housed at the Super 8 motel in Rotterdam have been displaced, as the building was vacated, according to Town Council member Joseph Mastroianni.
Mastroianni said the motel was vacated due to doubts that the fire suppression system in the building was working, adding the town has raised issues about the fire alarm panel as well as roaches and bedbugs in the motel.
The migrants, who have been at the motel since last summer, were moved out of the building — approximately 159 were on the last occupancy report, according to Mastroianni, though he was unsure how many people were removed from the motel — and the councilman said he didn't know where they were going as of yet. He noted that DocGo, however, offered other hotel stays in the region for migrants.
Last year, New York City, through its contractor DocGo, entered into a contract with the operator of the Super 8, allowing the motel to house approximately 183 asylum seekers, who arrived from New York City.
DocGo didn't immediately return a request for comment.
