National Grid has restored power to nearly 212,000 out of the 217,000 customers affected by power outages from the destructive ice and snow storm that struck eastern New York this weekend, the company announced just after 4 p.m. Monday.

National Grid officials said the roughly 2% of customers who remain without service are projected to have power back on Monday evening.

It said up to a half-inch of ice accumulated on power lines and trees, compounded by more than 20 inches of snow in the hardest-hit areas. The elements caused extensive, widespread damage, and fallen trees and associated debris created access issues for company crews, the company said.

Parts of Rensselaer County, the Curry Road area between Colonie and Rotterdam and the area west of the Albany Pine Bush Preserve, experienced a number of outages.

If you see downed wires, report them to National Grid immediately at (800) 867-5222.
