The Quad graphics printing facility in Saratoga Springs will close by May 4, displacing around 435 employees, the company announced Friday.
The company says the facility, which was built in 1984 and printed Sports Illustrated, Entertainment Weekly and other publications, will cease operations due to the changing media landscape, including volume contractions in newsweekly magazines.
The company will transfer work done at the Spa City plant to Quad locations in Hartford, Wis., The Rock, Ga., and Springfield, Mass.
Quad is also closing a facility in Bolingbrook, Illinois, by February 24, which is expected to affect about 75 workers.
The company is offering incentives for employees to relocate to other facilities "as their expertise is needed and valued." The company said that otherwise, employees will receive severance pay, a continuation of health care benefits and career transition assistance.
Clifton Park Supervisor Phil Barrett, speaking in his role as Saratoga County board chairman, said the county's Department of Workforce Development will help identify new career opportunities for displaced employees.
Saratoga County Economic Development President Greg Connors also pledged to help find new opportunities for the workers who lose jobs.
