Albany residents are being asked to remain vigilant regarding a new phone scam.

According to the Albany Police Department, someone has been making calls pretending to be an Albany Police Officer. The caller tells the victim they have a warrant if they don't pay the caller.

If you receive one of these scam phone calls, police advise that you hang up immediately.

Albany PD says it will never ask for financial information over the phone. Those who think they are being defrauded should contact Albany Police at (518) 438-4000.

Albany Police are also advising that you never provide personal, credit, or banking information to an unknown person calling, texting or emailing you, and be aware of pressuring techniques, such as needing to give information on the spot.
