Spectrum News 1 first introduced viewers to Hailey Parker last year, who at the time was still trying to make sense of the circumstances which led to a suicide attempt.
What You Need To Know
- According to the CDC, youth and young adults, ages 10-24, make up 15% of all suicides
- Between 2000 and 2021 suicide rates for this age group increased by more than 50 percent. 52.2%
“Now when I'm like, struggling or in a panic attack or anything, like, on my bad days, I try to remind myself that like, that I'm thinking about is either the past or the future, and that's what I'm stressing or worrying about,” said Parker.
With the help of therapy and medication, Parker feels much better and says this is the best she has felt in a very long time.
Staying in the present is Parker’s new mantra of life. And she wants to help others who may be struggling with their mental health.
“I'm in college right now for psychology," Parker shared. "I'm in my second year. I'm loving it. It's amazing. I'm so happy to like, continue my education, to then eventually be able to find a job in the fields.”
