Kaylin Gillis' father has filed a claim against the man accused of fatally shooting the woman in a Washington County driveway.
In April, Gillis, 20, of Schuylerville, was killed when the car she was riding in mistakenly turned in a Hebron driveway. The homeowner, Kevin Monahan, is accused of shooting at the SUV, killing Gillis. Washington County Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy said in April that neither Gillis nor her friends exited the vehicle, and none exchanged words with Monahan.
Monahan, 65, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. He has a hearing scheduled for next week.
In Thursday’s filing, Andrew Gillis says Monahan is liable for injuries, damages and wrongful death. He alleges Monahan didn't do enough to safely maintain his property in order to prevent people from being harmed if they entered it.
His wife Jinx Monahan, who is listed as an owner of the property, is also named in the suit.
