Extensive flooding conditions around Main Street in New Lebanon led the town supervisor to declare a state of emergency on Thursday.
The state of emergency was issued to protect the residents and properties of the town and seek support for cleanup efforts, according to a statement on the town website.
An emergency order authorizes town, county, state, and/or federal agencies to investigate and remediate the potentially dangerous conditions caused by the flooding.
Town officials believe a beaver dam break may have caused the flooding.
Members of the Lebanon Valley Protective Association traveled up the steep mountain that separates the town from Berkshire County in Massachusetts and discovered a large body of water estimated to be up to 10 acres large and 25-feet deep. A beaver dam at the site apparently busted, sending water, trees, stumps and debris into "The Springs area" of New Lebanon, town officials said.
