The statue of Revolutionary War general and New York Sen. Philip Schuyler has been removed from outside of Albany City Hall.

The statue was moved early Saturday morning.

This comes three years after Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan pledged to remove it.

In 2020, Sheehan issued an executive order for the statue to be given to a museum or other organization for display.

Sheehan cited Schuyler's ownership of slaves.

"It has become clear that now is the time to act and confront the unfortunate history of our nation,” Sheehan said in 2020, weeks after George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.

There is no word yet on where it was moved to.

During the removal of the statue, a time capsule was found underneath it.

Mayor Sheehan says she will work with the city's historian and representatives of the Albany Institute of History & Art to catalog the capsule’s contents in the coming days.
