Services will be held this week for a retired New York State Police senior investigator who died from an illness stemming from his work at the World Trade Center site in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Senior Investigator Nicholas A. Georgeadis, 52, of Wilton, was assigned to search and recovery efforts in New York City after planes hit the towers on 9/11. He passed away on April 28, according to New York State Police Acting Superintendent Steven Nigrelli.
Georgeadis entered the state police on April 30, 1997. He served for 21 years and retired on Nov. 28, 2018. He was a member of the State Police Special Investigations Unit for most of his career, before being assigned to the Office of Counterterrorism.
Georgeadis is survived by his wife, Amy, and three children, Austin, Alexis and Thomas.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave., Saratoga Springs. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Road, Albany.
Georgeadis is the second New York state trooper from the Capital Region to recently pass away from an illness related to Sept. 11, 2001.
Patrick Hogan, a military veteran and state police officer from Rensselaer County, also died in April after battling an illness.
