Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown will assume 95% of the Albany Empire, the National Arena League team announced Wednesday.
Mike Kwarta, the former majority owner, "is no longer affiliated with the team in any way," the announcement states, adding that Team President Matt Woods and Director of Media Relations Jeff Levack were leaving with Kwarta.
Antonio and his father Eddie Brown, a former Albany Firebirds star, joined the Albany Empire ownership group last month.
Steve and Charlotte von Schiller will own the remaining 5% of the Albany Empire, the team said.
Kwarta’s company TechEast Fire and Water Restoration, had been the major sponsor of the team since 2018.
“The goal from when the team was brought back in 2021 was to bring football back to the 518 to stay," Kwarta is quoted as saying on the team's website. "We brought two championships in two years and made the team sustainable for the future. Because of this, the history of the Empire in 2018 & 2019, and now 2021 & 2022 can never be erased."
