A complex winter storm continues to spread its effects across the Northeast.

What You Need To Know

  • A wintry mix of rain, sleet and wet snow transitions to all snow this morning and continues through tonight

  • Snow will be dense and heavy, causing tough travel and difficult clean up

  • Largest snow accumulations of one to two feet and gusty winds will be most concentrated in the higher elevations tonight through early Saturday

A nor'easter has developed and is moving up the New England Coast today. A rich moisture feed from the Atlantic is getting thrown back in our direction. As it interacts with cold enough air, we get stuck under a widespread winter storm with accumulating wet snowfall for several hours.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through Saturday morning for the Adirondacks, Mohawk Valley, Catskills, Helderbergs, Schoharie and Sullivan Counties and in the western Lake George and Saratoga areas. Snow will be heaviest there.

Besides the Winter Storm Warning, a Winter Weather Advisory is in place near the Hudson River on south where a mixture to all snow occurs.

After a wintry mix of rain and snow, we transition to all snow in the Hudson Valley today. Snow continues tonight, bringing a moderate accumulation of 6 to 12". A narrow area just to our east could receive slightly lower snow totals closer to 6" due to a shadow effect of the hills and an easterly wind.

Higher elevations continue to receive snow at rates of one inch per hour, so expect our ski areas to receive one to two feet of snow from this nor’easter.
