The Guilderland school district said the teenager killed in a Northway car crash this weekend was an 18-year-old senior at the high school.

A note from Guilderland Central School District Superintendent Marie Wiles identified the victim of the crash as Megi Hamza.

"Megi will be remembered as warm and friendly, with a sweet disposition," Wiles said in the note. "Always positive and smiling, she lit up any room she was in. Many students were fortunate to call Megi their friend. She touched many lives at GHS and will truly be missed."

The New York State Police said Hamza's car had become disabled in the center lane of I-87 northbound, just south of the Twin Bridges, with a tractor trailer stopped to the right of her car before 5 a.m. Sunday when a Chevy Tahoe hit her car from behind.

Wiles added that counselors are on hand today at the high school to provide support to students and staff.
