Albany County's COVID-19 infection rates are continuing on a downward trend, with just 53 new cases reported Sunday.

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy says just over 73% of county residents are now full vaccinated against COVID-19, with more than 80% having received their first dose. 

There was one new hospitalization overnight, according to McCoy's update Sunday, bringing the total hospitalization count to 55 residents with 14 patients in the ICU. 

There is one new death to report; a woman in her 70s.

“Unfortunately, we’ve lost another Albany County resident from COVID-19 and I send my condolences to her loved ones,” said McCoy. “Our new positive case numbers continue to go down, as well as new hospitalizations. That is good news. We continue to offer vaccination clinics at our health department and in the community to encourage those who haven’t gotten a shot to get one. It’s the best defense against COVID-19.”

The death toll for Albany County now stands at 525 since the outbreak began.
