A man convicted of killing four people, including two children, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Wednesday afternoon.
James White, 42, was found guilty of first-degree murder and other charges stemming from the stabbing deaths of Brandi Mells, 22, Shanta Myers, 36, Jeremiah Myers, 11 and 5-year-old Shaniese Myers in a Lansingburgh apartment four days before Christmas in 2017.
A second suspect in the case, Justin Mann, pleaded guilty in April 2019 and is serving 25 years to life in prison.
White remained defiant on Wednesday, telling the court, “I have no remorse because I did nothing wrong.”
In a statement released Wednesday, Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly refuted that.
“The defendant tried to claim he was not the killer, yet the evidence traces him from Schenectady to Troy and back again with the victim’s belongings,” Donnelly said. “James White and Justin Mann robbed them and then took their lives with an expectation of not being caught. The cowardice of James White displaying no remorse is troubling.”
In impact statements read by prosecutors, loved ones wrote to White “you torn up our family.” White told the court “I have no remorse because I did nothing wrong.” Later interrupting the judge, he told her “do your worse.”
