Inside his Glens Falls shop, Brennan Wilson knows how to keep you looking sharp, but it’s not just his barbering skills he’s been keeping crisp. He’s been playing hockey since he was about 7-years-old, but an upcoming game this weekend makes the sport even more special for him.
On Wednesday, he double and tripled checked his equipment, excited for a flight to Wisconsin, where he’ll be playing with 'Team Trans' for the very first time.
“Being able to go play with a team that is completely all trans individuals… my emotions are really high right now," said Brennan.
Brennan, who is transgender himself, said before finding inclusive hockey teams like the local one he currently plays for, he worried whether he would be accepted.
“Going into adult hockey, it was just my own fears and curiosity of what others would think of me, but at the end of the day I’ve been really lucky. Unfortunately, not everyone has that same situation," said Brennan.
He says that’s why it’s important there be more LGBTQ inclusive teams, like the one he’s a part of - the Albany Bombers.
“They make it comfortable and safe in the locker room, on the ice and off the ice,” said Brennan.
And it was all worth the hard work, because Brennan's team won the hockey tournament on Saturday.
