Danielle Roberts, who took part in the branding of some members of NXIVM with the leader's initials, has had her medical license revoked after a Department of Health investigation.

Roberts is the second former NXIVM member to have her medical license revoked by New York; Brandon Porter, who performed what have been referred to as "fright studies," lost his license in 2019.

The DOH investigation determined Roberts wasn't trained in using a cauterizing pen she used to brand members with "KAR," the initials of NXIVM leader and co-founder Keith Raniere. The department said brandings for the secret subgroup “DOS,” which stands for a Latin phrase loosely translated as “master over the slave woman," were done without anesthesia "to intentionally cause them pain."

“First-line slaves” in DOS reported directly to Raniere and were encouraged to recruit their own “slaves,” thus becoming their “master.” Lauren Salzman, sentenced in July to probation in the NXIVM case, recruited six women into DOS, concealing Raniere’s involvement from them. Instead, the women were told they were joining a secret sorority.

Women in DOS were told to hand over damaging collateral, including naked photographs. Some of the women, including Salzman’s “slaves,” were branded with Raniere’s initials.
