Friday marked the first accident at the Saratoga Race Course this season.
Jockey Luis Cardenas was riding his horse Strong Moment when they both fell during the 10th race of the day. Strong Moment fell just inside the eight pole of the track.
Cardenas was sent to Albany Medical Center for evaluation.
Unfortunately, Strong Moment had to be euthanized at the track.
The New York Racing Association commented on the incident, saying, "The health and welfare of horses and jockeys competing at NYRA tracks is our highest priority. NYRA continuously evaluates all aspects of the operation to ensure we are providing the safest possible environment for training and racing at Saratoga Race Course, Belmont Park and Aqueduct Racetrack."
