A 19-year-old man was killed in a home invasion at around 3:46 a.m. Wednesday in Pittstown, in Rensselaer County, according to the New York State Police.

According to a preliminary investigation performed by police, occupants of a residence located at 151 Jay Herrington Road woke up to multiple suspects attempting to force entry into the home.

During the incident, Nathaniel M. Miller, 19, suffered a fatal gunshot wound, State Police said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.

State Troopers in Brunswick responded to the home.

Three suspects believed to be involved fled into a wooded residence behind the home, police said.

"Preliminary information suggests this was a targeted shooting, and the parties involved knew one another," police said. "There is not believed to be an ongoing threat to the community."

The investigation remains active.
