Edible gardens are being planted for not only members to enjoy, but passers-by as well.

There will be a series of vegetables, herbs and fruits free for the taking at the Honest Weight Food Co-op in Albany.

The team at Honest Weight was inspired by a similar program called "Incredible Edible," based in a small town in the U.K.

Everyone there, including business owners, have turned their flower gardens into edible gardens. Organizers are hoping the new edible gardens become a safe haven of sorts for people facing food insecurity and will help educate.

“This is a way for people to come and touch and play with and get their hands in the dirt and maybe pick up being here to and eat it right off the vine,” said Deanna Beyer of the Honest Weight Food Co-op.

The gardens will be strategically placed around the Honest Weight building and will accommodate people living with disabilities.
