Tucked away on the south end of Troy lies Emma Willard. It’s known for its beautiful campus and strong academics, but not so much for athletics. But the Swim and Dive team is starting to change that narrative.

"I've been on the swim team since freshman year and had never been in the top 3," senior Rosie Versaci said. "We’ve usually been 4 or 5, we’ve been so close."

History is always meant to be made and that’s exactly what this team did, winning their first ever Colonial Council championship earlier this month.

  • The team says the win has been celebrated by the entire school

"It feels amazing to have that, to really make that record," rising junior Coco Luo said of the win. "The first season to have that first season that we have claimed championship."

And the win did not, by any means, come easy.

"There was so much tension, so much anticipation as they were saying 6th place to 5th place to 4th place to 3rd, 2nd, and then first and they were like, Emma Willard has won and we went crazy," Versaci said.

"It definitely made up for the fact we didn’t have sectionals, honestly this was even better for us," senior Jenna Drummond added.

It’s an accomplishment that had been felt around the entire school.

"If we pass people in the hallway, they say congratulations and the school made an announcement," senior Giavana Smith says. "It really feels like the whole school has been behind us."

The climb to the top has been long, but staying at the top will be even harder.

"The pressure is definitely going to be on, but we can definitely make it together," Luo said.

It's the final chapter for the seniors a perfect ending to their careers, who leave a few final words of wisdom.

"Stay strong, cheer each other on, you’re going to kill it next year guys," Versaci said.

And with a strong group returning, the Jesters might just be able to defend their crown.
