When COVID-19 cancelled the high school sporing sports season back in March, many players and parents began to wonder what this all means for college recruiting.

What You Need To Know

  • 2020 was Monarch League's Inaugural season

  • Gave players a chance to play so they can keep up with college recruiting

  • League wrapped up their season this weekend

For many, they had no recent film to send to coaches and even went through a lenghty "dead" period where players and coaches couldn't communicate with each other.

Noticing this, the King Sports Training Center in Schenectady moved forward with the Monarch Baseball League to provide high schoolers a chance to shake off the rust this fall.

"Playing in this league is fun. There is no pressure," South Glens Falls senior Cameron Woodard said. "It's just a really fun league."

Woodard is looking to continue his career at the next level. He says the shutdown of the season was motivation for him this fall. He missed out on that crucial junior season where interest from colleges really ramps up. He says this league was motivation for him to keep his name out there.

"It really motivated me to perform. As soon as everything opened up, it really was just perform. I really just wanted to showcase myself," he said.

Given all thats happened, players in the Capital Region will get their shot at the next level even if they missed out on their seasons. The road to get there will be just a little more bumpy than normal.
