The League of Women Voters of Saratoga marked National Voter Registration Day with a massive volunteer effort Tuesday.

What You Need To Know

  • Mail-in registration must be postmarked by October 9

  • In-person registration concluded on October 9

  • Online and mail-in absentee registration concludes October 27

  • In-person absentee registration concludes November 2

Dozens of volunteers mobilized across Saratoga, Warren, and Washington counties. The teams assisted people in registering to vote, changing party affiliation and filling out absentee voter registration forms.

For the first time, volunteers also encouraged 16- and 17-year-olds to preregister.

People were able to take grab-and-go forms to complete on scene or to bring to their local board of elections office.

“It’s imperative that people come out and make sure that’s they’re registered. You want to exercise you right to vote. We’ll sign you up to vote,” said Kathy Biegay, NVRD Committee Chairwoman. “We’re not going to tell you how to vote."

The National Voter Registration Day comes on the heels of a new agreement between New York State and the League of Women Voters. The agreement will expand options for absentee voting if there are technical issues with a voters ballot.

Advocates believe this will be critical, as a high volume of absentee ballots are expected to be cast due to COVID-19.

“Your vote is your choice and your vote is your voice,” said Biegay. “You have to vote if you want to have part of the democracy.”
