A statue honoring Union Civil War soldiers in Saratoga's Congress Park was vandalized, marking the second act of vandalism in recent days.
A city press release said the statue, which honors New York's 77th Regiment that fought in the Army of the Potomac from 1861-65, was destroyed overnight, and discovered Thursday morning. This past weekend, a recently refinished gateway at the park had been vandalized, along with trees and benches.
Officials vowed to hold the parties responsible to "the fullest extent of the law," and said the Department of Public Works and the Department of Public Safety are planning more measures to secure the park from further attacks.
If you have information on either act, call the Saratoga Police Department at (518) 584-1800.
