Whether they were hanging with friends or taking the family out for a stroll, the re-opening of the Plotter Kill Reserve in Schenectady gave people a good reason to venture outdoors.

What You Need To Know

  • Schenectady expects visitors to follow social distancing guidelines by staying six feet apart.
  • There are plenty of trails to see, more than 100 acres.
  • Everyone said it was the ideal spot to be outdoors.

Hiker Steve Vaughn enjoyed the trails with his granddaughters.

“They’ve never been here before, so I brought them along and we had a good time,” said Vaughn.

“It’s just a good way to get out into nature,” said his granddaughter Olivia.

Daniel Gregory brought his baby daughter along for the ride, too.

“She needed some sun; she needed to get out now that the weather's nice,” said Gregory.

Schenectady County deemed the park a low-risk activity following the phased re-opening of the Capital Region. The preserve is a little more than 100 acres. Signs along the trail remind visitors of the six feet apart rule. Both the Indian Kill and Plotter Kill are open to the public from dawn to dusk.
