Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis ordered the sentencing hearing for defendant Keith Raniere to be held on January 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Raniere is the co-founder of the alleged sex-cult NXIVM.

The announcement came on Friday.

Another person involved in alleged sex cult NXIVM was told their sentencing on Saturday. Bookkeeper Kathy Russell, who pleaded guilty to visa fraud, will be sentenced on January 29.

As for the leader of the Capital Region-based group, Keith Raniere, a judge asked attorneys to give dates in January for his sentencing at an October 31 hearing.

This comes after a conflict of interest delayed the sentencing. Raniere was convicted on a number charges including sex trafficking and forced labor in June.

High-ranking NXIVM member Clare Bronfman will be sentenced on January 8. Bronfman is the first of the cult co-conspirators to have their sentencing rescheduled. 

Bronfman, the Seagram's liquor heiress, pleaded guilty to harboring someone in the United States illegally for unpaid labor and for committing credit card fraud on behalf of NXIVM leader Keith Raniere.

As part of her plea deal, Bronfman forfeited $6 million and faces up to 27 months in prison. In regards to Raniere, a judge asked attorneys to give dates in January for his sentencing at an October 31 hearing. This comes after a conflict of interest delayed the sentencing.

Raniere was convicted on a number of charges, including sex trafficking and forced labor, in June.
