Protesters Thursday night called for accountability in the shooting death of Edson Thevenin. Justice for Dahmeek helped organize this protest. The group was formed after Dahmeek McDonald was shot by a Troy police officer in 2017.

They rallied outside the Troy City Council Finance Committee, and then the group of about four dozen people filled up the back of the meeting room. After waiting for three hours to speak during the public forum, the group interrupted the meeting, called for justice, and listed their demands.

  • Fire Sgt Randall French
  • Prosecute officials involved
  • Create a police civilian review board with subpoena power

Protesters are upset over the handling of the investigation into Segarant Randall French shooting and killing Thevenin. They believe the situation was a cover up.

This comes a week after an investigation by the Troy Police Inspectional Services Bureau found French giving false information. The city has called that report fundamentally flawed and inconsistent with the facts of this case.

“What do we want, justice. When do we want it, now,” chanted the protesters.

“We are hoping to accomplish Justice for Edson Thevenin, that’s the main thing. Justice in the name of Edson Thevenin for his children. His mother and his wife, and our community in general,” said Messiah Cooper, Justice for Dahmeek.

Protesters are planning to hold a similar rally in two weeks during the city council meeting. They vow not to stop until there’s justice for Thevenin.
