The Town of Halfmoon is alerting residents of a possible mountain lion sighting.
According to the town, residents have reported sightings of the rare animal in the area of Coons Crossing. The state Department of Environmental Conservation says mountain lions have been absent from New York state since the late 1800s.
However, over the years there have been a few isolated sightings.
"I was not worried at all, but I do enjoy the wildlife, which is why I do like to ride on the trails because you see so much different stuff out there so it would be exciting if you saw one, from a safe distance," said Christopher Del Vecchio, a Johnsonville resident, riding his bike on the nearby Zim Smith Trail.
"First I was surprised because I do bike here about once a month," said Clifton Park resident Todd Hoelscher. "I thought twice about biking today but I figure there's a ton of people out here so I'm probably pretty safe."
The town is advising residents to stay alert for the safety of families and pets.
If you spot the animal, you're asked to contact the D.E.C.
