Eight months later, the aftermath of the Schoharie limo crash still brings tears to eyes of loved ones. Saturday, some of those tears were more relieved after seeing plans for a permanent memorial.

"Now there a place for us to go, for all the families. It's theirs alone, but it's also for everyone," said a mother of a Schoharie victim, Jill Richardson-Perez.

Jill's son, Michael, died along with 19 others on that fatal afternoon in October. She says for her and the other families there, the tribute gave them a sense of peace.

"Even if it's a short amount of time, it stops everything and puts that away where you can focus on the good," Jill said.

The memorial will feature a seating area and personalized stones for each of the victims. It will be placed near the Apple Barrel Cafe, the site of the accident.

Owners of the cafe say taking on this project for the family was a no brainier.

“It’s been very rewarding and humbling to help honor their family members,” said Jessica Kirby, owner/memorial organizer.

So far, they have raised over $30,000 for the memorial construction through fundraisers and the help of the community. They say they are looking to raise even more money for maintenance of the site once it's done.

They have no doubt that goal can be reached.

"We've always been there for one another and that's the only way it's going to be because we have become a family," Jill said.

Organizers say they plan to unveil the piece on October 6, the memorial of the crash.
