SPECTRUM NEWS VIDEO: Albany Police body camera footage released Wednesday provided more detail into an altercation between officers and a man in Albany last month. The footage, from the night of March 16, was taken on First Street, and led to the arrest of three men — who each had their charges dropped Wednesday. The video appears to show Albany Police officer Luke Deer assaulting one of those three men, Armando Sanchez, with his baton. Deer, a five-year veteran of the department, is now facing charges of assault and official misconduct. Police Chief Eric Hawkins said more than a dozen officers responded and it is possible more officers will face disciplinary action. Deer was suspended immediately without pay; two other officers, according to the chief, were also suspended without pay for their conduct. The above video shows portions of the body camera footage, and can be graphic and disturbing to watch.
