Albany International Airport firefighter Josh Woodward is set to return home soon, and many in the community are working to make the homecoming as comfortable as possible.

Woodward’s battle against sepsis has gained attention worldwide, but especially in the Capital Region.

Woodward is bound to a wheelchair. According to Facebook page 'Woodward Strong,' local contractor Pat Rafferty asked Josh’s wife if their house needed a ramp, and it didn't take long for others in the community to chip in.

Lowe’s Home Improvement stores in Albany and Halfmoon donated deck boards, plywood, screws, and other hardware. With the help of Josh's friends, Rafferty, and Lowe’s, the ramp was built in just a few days.

“When we caught wind of it, we just wanted to make sure we jumped in and helped out where we could, which with all the community programs that Lowe's allows me to do, it was a no-brainer for me to sign off and make the donation materials for the Woodward family," said Halfmoon Lowe's Store Manager Eric Carner.

Woodward underwent surgery last week on his right foot. His wife posted on 'Woodward Strong' that he was in stable condition following the operation, and he will return to rehab.
