New details Wednesday evening on a connection between Michael Avenatti and the NXIVM case.
The U.S. Attorney's office says Clare Bronfman's defense attorney Mark Geragos, along with Avenatti, met with federal prosecutors to discuss the case against the alleged cult headquartered in the Capital Region.
Bronfman is charged with with racketeering, racketeering conspiracy and conspiracy to commit identity theft.
Bronfman's co-defendants include Keith Raniere and Allison Mack, who are both charged with racketeering, racketeering conspiracy, forced labor conspiracy, wire fraud conspiracy, sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and attempted sex trafficking.
Raniere also faces charges of sexual exploitation of a child, possession of child pornography, and conspiracy to commit identity theft.
During a conference in Brooklyn Federal Court Wednesday, Bronfman fainted and was treated by paramedics, declining to go to the hospital.
No details on what role Avenatti had in the defense team, but Geragos was reported as the unnamed co-conspirator in a criminal complaint filed against Avenatti this week, claiming he tried to extort more than $20 million from Nike.
Avenatti denies the allegations and pledges to fight the charges in court.
