New information has been released about the death of an inmate at the Greene Correctional Facility.

A spokesman for the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision says Anthony Myrie was in a three-on-one fight with other prisoners. He says guards broke up the fight without using force, and Myrie was examined by medical staff, but found to be unharmed.

He then said he had chest pain, and collapsed a short time later. Myrie was rushed to Albany Medical Center, but died. Myrie would have been celebrating his 25th birthday next month.

He leaves behind his wife, who is a mother to three children.

A preliminary autopsy found no trauma, but suggested a sudden cardiac arrest. An official cause of death has not yet been released.

Myrie was serving a seven-year sentence on a drug conviction in the New York City area. His death received national attention after drawing interest from celebrities on social media.

His family said earlier this week that they weren't told details of what happened. Myrie's brother and wife made a joint statement via Instagram, breaking down the moments before Myrie was taken. The post below has been edited for proper journalistic style and flow. The original statement can be read here.

"This [is] our brother Anthony Myrie, we all knew him as Trey, I want this story to be given all the light possible on any major platform. Trey was being held at Green Correctional Facility, [when] on February 11, 2019, at approximately 11:16 a.m., Trey was on the phone with his wife as he normally would. During this phone call he seemed stressed like he did not want to get off the phone. [A] short time after, the correctional officers came to take Trey to what is known as "the box." Around 2 p.m. she received a message from a family member of another inmate saying Trey was taken to the box. A short time after, his wife @mz_butta_ [on Instagram], called the prison to see why he was placed in the box [and] they told her he wasn’t in the box, he was in population. At exactly 4:27 she received a call from the jail saying Trey was in “critical condition." Then at 5:19 p.m. they called her back saying "he didn't make it!” They then told her they had sent his body to Albany Medical Center. [Trey's wife] called them [and they said] they have no records of him ever being admitted. So where is his body??!! The jail is trying [to] buy time to cover this up! [His wife] then received other messages from family members of other inmates saying they believe Trey was seriously hurt by the correctional officers. This story needs major attention! It has been two days and they still won’t tell anybody where our brother’s body is!! These stories happen all the time and will continue to happen if we do not do something now! This could be your husband, boyfriend, brother, or family member."

The post went on to call upon celebrities, media outlets, and more to bring attention to Myrie's case. Many in the comments are urging viewers to call the jail and demand justice.

Myrie's wife also posted a video from a rally for Myrie, which you can see below.

Tamika Mallory of the Women's March has also joined activists in raising awareness around this case.
