A local woman with a passion for creating music is making sure all children are able to pick up an instrument and learn how to play.
Through the Albany Symphony Orchestra Jill Rifkin leads a donation drive to collect gently used instruments for Capital Region students who can't afford one. As a classical singer and guitarist herself, Jill knows the power of music.
She says playing an instrument gives children an outlet.
"Frequently grades improve, attendance rates go up, they feel a sense of belonging to a wonderful group. They're making music together and that's a joyous feeling," said Jill Rifkin.
