Wednesday was a big day for Troy as Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced she would base her 2020 presidential campaign headquarters in the city.

"We work hard, we were part of the industrial revolution. We've had our ups and downs like a lot of places all across America, but we continue to work hard and start new businesses," Gillibrand said.

Gillibrand is no stranger to the city as Troy is where she was raised and first ran for Congress.

With the news, downtown business owners were buzzing with excitement. Pertra Jancovicova, owner of Anchor No. 5 Boutique, says the city sometimes gets a bad reputation from outsiders, but she's hopeful Gillibrand can help change that.

"If it's good enough for Kirsten Gillibrand, who is running for president, well it's got to be good enough for us. So let's go see why she chose downtown, why is it so amazing," Jancovicova said.

Down the street at Ekologic, owner Kathleen Tesnakis says it just makes sense for a woman to call Troy home base for a presidential run.

"In a place where women created the shirt collar factory that we're so famous for, women created the first textile union here in 1860, I think it's the most appropriate place for her to come and help us change the world,” Tesnakis said.

While it is rumored the Frear Building will be the headquarters, nothing has been confirmed, with no date set yet for the official opening of headquarters.
