Cohoes Mayor Shawn Morse has responded to a recent report in the Albany Times Union, claiming he choked an 18-year-old who came to his home.

According to the Times Union, a man who used to date Morse's daughter came to his home Saturday, asking for property he left there. The article says that Morse then choked him, and the man's mother called police when the incident escalated.

The T-U says that Morse also called 911.

State Police confirm that Cohoes police has requested State Police handle an investigation into a reported physical and verbal altercation.

Spectrum News spoke with Mayor Morse on the phone. He denies choking the man, and says the man threatened him and wasn't welcome at his home.

"I'm home in my own house, people are coming onto my property, making threats against my family," Morse said. "I take that very seriously. I'm not going to let people threaten me or my family on my own property, and so I called the police."

Troopers are also investigating past allegations that Morse physically abused his wife and daughter. Those claims prompted some on the city council to call for his resignation. Morse denies them.
