HUDSON, N.Y. -- The city fire department is remembering one of its own.
The department says 47-year-old Mark Graziano was found unresponsive at his home Wednesday morning. The previous day, he had responded to two fire calls in a 24-hour period. Graziano was 47.
"Mark was a great asset to this department," said Second Assistant Chief Nicolas Pierro. "Loved what he did for the city and the fire department."
Graziano joined the Hudson Fire Department at 14 years old as an explorer. He became a firefighter in 1989 at age 18.
Pierro has known Graziano since Pierro first joined the department. He says Graziano's death was a shock to his firefighters.
"Their reaction was 'he was just here last night; this is crazy,' " Pierro said.
In addition, Graziano was also a member of the Hudson Fire Department dive and rescue team. In 2016, he was presented with the department's life saving award for rescuing a drowning victim.
The cause of his death remains under investigation.
Graziano is survived by his daughter, son, grandson and sisters. A visitation will be held Monday evening at the Hudson Central Fire Station, with services to follow.
