JOHNSONVILLE, N.Y. -- Fire crews responded to a house fire in northern Rensselaer County Tuesday night

Rensselaer County Deputy Fire Coordinator Aaron Cook says he spotted the fire around 6:30 p.m. on Master Street in Johnsonville. The fire spread to both the fire and second floors of the home. No one was inside when the fire broke out, and no firefighters were hurt fighting the fire.

Fire officials say there were some challenges, including the cold weather and the location.

"Always trying to get water established with your rivers. Out here, there are no hydrants," Cook said. "It's all rural, so you basically have to pump water out of either ponds, rivers, streams, and whatever is available."

Firefighters were able to knock the fire down in about 30 minutes. They believe the home can be salvaged.
