TROY, N.Y. -- The Troy community is in shock after learning a mother, her 5-year-old daughter, 11-year old-son, and her partner were killed inside a 2nd Avenue apartment.
"These children, that's the greatest disgrace that ever happened," Frank Mayben Jr. said.
Mayben coached the 11-year-old boy in basketball and calls the boy lovable, coachable and displined.
"Wanted to be a leader, wanted to be a part of everything that was right," Mayben said.
He was one of many community members at a press conference Wednesday. Reverend Jackie Robinson says this crime is affecting everyone in the community.
"Killing people period is terrible, but killing children, that's unimaginable," Robinson said.
He says the community needs to support the police as much as they can. Robinson also added anyone with information needs to come forward as soon as possible.
Cortlyn Cooney's mother lives just a few doors down from the scene. On Wednesday night, Cooney and her family held a small vigil at the corner of 103rd Street and 2nd Avenue.
"Support and love from other people is definitely needed for times like this," Cooney said.
Police are asking anyone with information they think could be helpful in the investigation to call them. Tips can also be submitted to Capital Region Crime Stoppers, either through the free P3 Tips app or by calling 833-ALB-TIPS.
Victory Christian Church Pastor Charlie Muller is also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the killings.
