Q: Why are some road surfaces made of concrete and others of asphalt?
A: I often wondered that myself, so I put the question to our friendly New York State Thruway spokesperson.
He says that concrete is used in certain areas due to its durability. Concrete is also used in very high truck traffic areas, and areas with a high water table. Otherwise, it’s good old asphalt.
